Post 357: And Finally Finally!!

Thank You for 2014. Here’s to 2015!

It’s been quite a while since I posted on here and even longer since I took a break to concentrate on other things (Mainly working on the house and attempting to write fiction but with a lot of breaks for dog walks and food!)

This will be my last post on this blog. I fear repetition set in some time  ago but I was enjoying my daily fix so much I chose to overlook it and you were all kind enough to let it pass.

Since I stopped the daily blog my computer (internet) has been tormented by reliability issues, some of which I can put down to BT some to the internet provider and some to the building works across the road. They have been annoying but would have been beyond endurance in the full flow of the blog.

My hands are sore with plastering and cement work. I’ve hung a couple of dozen rolls of wallpaper and emptied several large pots of paint. I’m enthused by doing up the house in the same way as I was enthused by the blog. There isn’t time for both. It may well have given me the green shoots of a writing career or it may have fully satisfied the urge to pronounce upon the world I live in. Whatever, it has been fantastic fun and a revelation to discover this world of fabulous people taking time out of eventful lives to share stories, poems, thoughts, photographs, compositions and artworks.

My son and his girlfriend have been running a blog on the complete films of Walt Disney. They carefully prepare each post over weeks of careful research and writing. I had never been much of a fan of Disney (and still find some aspects of his world uncomfortable) but I have come to enjoy reading these posts. I have a yen to perhaps do the same in due course, perhaps on the complete works of Laurel and Hardy (I share a hometown with Stan Laurel). It’s in the maybe file.

For months I maintained a daily post while holding down a full-time job. Now I am fully retired as far as pay-cheque work is concerned and I cannot find time to even write the weekly food diaries.

Blogging has given me a great deal. I’ve discovered some brilliant blogs and some wonderful bloggers. I have learnt a great deal from them and have formed true friendships which I fully intend to maintain. I’ve doubled my knowledge of IT and have improved both writing and cooking skills. I continue to write and I continue to eat well but it is quite a relief to simply enjoy a meal without having to photograph it!

I wish you all the very best. A belated Merry Christmas and good wishes for a happy and prosperous new year. I have enjoyed 2014 enormously and have a very good feeling about 2015. I am going to section off a little part of my week for reading and dropping in the occasional comment and like onto your blogs. If the Stan and Ollie one comes off I’ll let you know but don’t hold your breath… I’ve got a lot of work to do on this house yet. We’ve lived here for nearly a quarter of a century and have continually put off doing it until we had time to do it properly. It is a superb house (built in the year of the French Revolution) and deserves to be lovingly restored to be enjoyed in our future and for future generations. I’ve got plenty to keep me busy.

I leave you with a few favourite pictures from the blogging year and a few of the beard that I will shave off once the house is complete.

Oh, and take a look at David and Melissa’s Disney blog. It’s a darned good read and nudges the memory nicely. I add a link to one of the more recent posts.
